Free Stuff on the Internetillustrated reference guide to free Net resources
The Internet is packed with free stuff of all kinds. The problem is, knowing where to start looking for it. Most people locate a freebie, enjoy it, but then don't go much further.
There's a section on fonts, graphics, and wallpaper; then a miscellaneous section under the heading 'Family' in which Adobe Acrobat (a very popular e-book reader) nestles weirdly alongside children's health and British meat. There's also a section on music, art, and entertainment which lists the all-popular MP3 sites, but also includes free encyclopedias, newspapers, journals, and even weather reports. The important thing with any guide to online resources is that it must be at least briefly annotated. Our eyes glaze over when we see an unadorned list of URLs. These guides offer short and informative summaries of what to expect when you reach the recommended site. We can't ask for much better than that. © Roy Johnson 2001 [see other TECHNICAL reviews] Kye Valongo, Free Stuff on the Internet, Plymouth: Internet Handbooks, 2001, pp.144, ISBN 1840253037 |
