Lawrence fans will be interested to know that there's a new guide to his work which has just appeared. Fiona Becket's 'Complete Guide' offers a full account of Lawrence's life and works - all placed in historical context. It includes his turbulent relationships with women; a survey of his stories, novels, and poems and even and account of his little-known plays and travel writing. She also traces the development of criticism of Lawrence's work - which is still a thriving business. This is the main thrust of John Heskett's new book on design. He looks at both the way design is produced and consumed. He also examines the way design is perceived and affects different societies - so this is a book which will appeal to sociologists as well as designers. This is a stylishly produced monograph. He looks at the way in which the new media feed off the old forms such as paintings, printed books, and newspapers. Some of these even fight back by imitating elements of digitisation into their design.
