0-----	'Headstart' - Preparing for University

Would you like to prepare yourself
or your students for entry into
	higher education? In double-quick
time? Maybe even ready for September
	or October this year?

It can still be done. Get connected
with HeadStart - a course devised by
	City College Manchester. It's available
as a distance learning course, or you
can run it in your own college or school
	as a taught course.

It equips students with the skills
they will need for essay-writing, time
	management, tutorials, lectures, and
coping with the pressures of university
	life.

The course was developed to meet the
	government's widening participation
	objectives. It draws down funding,
it's fully accredited, and it is
	spreading like wildfire throughout
	the UK.

	and occupational sites, plus

0-----	Modern Typography - David Carson

There's a new expanded edition of
David Carson's 'The End of Print'.
Our review of this book is one of
the most-requested pages on our site.

David Carson was once a competitive
surfer and a sociology teacher - but
he became a leading figure in the
Grunge school of west coast American
	typography in the 1990s.

'The End of Print' is a best-seller
which he designed himself and shows
a wacky sense of graphic design in
which pictures, text, and page layout
all seem to blend into each other.

This one is for post-Modern fans.

0-----	Birthday issues

Today - 16 August - is my birthday,
and it's also Madonna's. Apart from
that, I think we have little in common.
	Yesterday was Napoleon's birthday:
	he would have been 232.
