Why not return to the classics and a guarantee of good quality writing. We've extended the range of our tutorial notes on great writers. These offer biographical sketches and recommendations, plus literary criticism and further reading. D.H. LAWRENCE is famous for writing frankly about sex - but he also engages passionately on other subjects such as social class and what we would now call gender issues. http://www.mantex.co.uk/ou/a319/dhl-00.htm FRANZ KAFKA was one of the most original writers of the German expressionist movement. He created images and ideas which helped to define modern consciousness. http://www.mantex.co.uk/ou/a319/kafka-00.htm THOMAS HARDY was once regarded as a 'regional' novelist. Now his psychological insights and powerful tales put him amongst the great writers. http://www.mantex.co.uk/ou/aa810/hardy-00.htm JANE AUSTEN is a perennial favourite - famous for her sharp, satirical wit. She casts an ironic gaze on the manners and morals of her characters. Much funnier than the film versions. http://www.mantex.co.uk/ou/aa810/austen-00.htm 0----- 'PC Hardware in a Nutshell' This is another in O'Reilly's 'Nutshell' series. It provides a complete guide to all aspects of computer hardware - from the keyboard, through the hard disk, to video adapters and tape storage. It's written by people who give advice and test equipment as a business, and they take an approach which is hands-on and guides you through in easy stages. Although the main thrust is to take you through upgrading and repairing, right up to he point of building your own PC, I found the end-of-chapter recommendations on best buys and what to look for just as interesting. They also have a section that explains how to get the best prices. http://www.mantex.co.uk/reviews/thompson.htm 0----- New FREE Web browser Yes - of course - most browsers are now free. Amaya 4.0 is a free web browser and web editor, and it's all you need to browse the web and also create and upload web pages. It was created in order to test that a web page's coding is correct, and to check the new W3C web specifications.
