'The Whole Internet' - new edition
This is a comprehensive account of everything
from email, newsgroups, and web searching,
through to how the Net actually works. It
explains what you can do to improve your
efficiency in using it to best advantage.
The first edition of this best-selling title
appeared in 1992. It has now been re-written
and updated to take account of developments
in the last eight years. It's now more
user-friendly and a much-improved resource.

Mailing Lists - Where to find them
Meta-List.net allows you to search for over
230,000 different mailing lists. You can
search for several different languages, but
at the moment the search interface is in just
two different languages -- English and German.
They will add other languages during 2000.
'Successful Writing for Research'
When you come to tackle a research project,
you'll probably need all the help you can get.
Most people feel rather overwhelmed by the
size of the task.
This new writing guide offers you plenty of
reassurance and advice. It covers organising
your work, academic formats, editing, and
even collaborative writing.
The most original part of the book is the
last section which provides practical tips
on how to write effective proposals for
publication - with real-life examples.

File Types - Guidance Notes
This is a simple information resource for
students and beginners. Many people are
baffled by filenames they don't recognise.
Yet you can tell a lot about a file, merely
from the three-letter name suffix. We've
made a free downloadable guidance note on
the most common types of file. Go to --
Typography - a select bibliography
Annotated bibliographies are very popular on
our website right now - and this is the latest
addition. It lists many of the classic titles
voted 'indispensable' and 'best ever' by the
members of typography mailing lists.
We have reviews of many titles, and others
have links to Amazon, where you can read
reviews by readers and in some cases even
the authors.
Select-All Word Tip
To select an entire document in WordPad,
Word, and many other word-processors or
text-editors - to highlight it for cutting,
copying, deleting, styling, and whatnot -
simply choose EDIT/SELECT ALL. Alternatively,
try the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-A.
Palm Pilots - Prices Down!
Palm Pilots have dropped in price again.
The release of Palm VII with its wireless
email and web access means that the Palm V
is now 'standard'. Cheapest source for these in the UK continues
to be Expansys - at just over £200 plus VAT
Meanwhile O'Reilly have just issued the second
edition of their Definitive Guide to the Palm Pilot.
This comes with a CD containing an astonishing
3,000-plus programs - for Windows, the Mac, and
even Linux. Details and full length review at -
