Unless you're a regular reader of Nabokov's work, it can often seem baffling. He has a habit of hiding or delaying the introduction of his subject until well into the story, and as a modernist writer he sometimes produces fiction which does not have any story, but focuses on mood, atmosphere, and simply an appreciation of the material world. Try some of his earlier, more straightforward short stories, and you'll gradually get the hang of things. Thanks for posting.

Well Matthew, if it’s any consolation, you will not be alone. The chopping from reality to scene etc I'm must admit I could not of given anyone a description of the story until I saw your review well done a yes I think you have very strong points.

I finished “Cloud Castle Lake” feeling completely lost I thought it was I’d completely missed something.
